Pustular mat

This is a transcript of a QuickTime movie (4.6 MB) recorded at Shark Bay in 2005. Stefan Leuko, from the Australian Centre for Astrobiology, looks at a pustular mat in Shark Bay.

Transcript:

What you can see here is a really nice example of a pustular mat. You can see all down there, it's a pretty thick pustular mat, all in the intertidal zone so it gets covered with water and then gets a dry phase again, it's all up to the tides. It's solid, but also not like a rock, you can still squish it a little bit. It's really nice, and a really good example of a pustular mat.
